Fill Your Weekend With These Awesome Attractions in Philadelphia!

Philly is one of the best cities to get to have fun and somehow be constantly surrounded by history and awesome art. If you’re in town for the weekend and aren’t sure what to do while you’re here, you’ll fear you don’t have enough time in the city by the time you see how much you can do!

These are the top attractions in Philadelphia, and why this is an awesome place to spend a weekend!

Explore Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

This fun stop is one that many locals haven’t even explored, so it’s great to stop in as a tourist! Full of incredible mosaics and folk art, this non-profit gallery space is one continuous piece of art. Created by mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar, this piece spans three city lots and has everything from indoor galleries to a large labyrinth outdoors.

Every inch of the mosaic is made of a different material, in a different hue or shade, and guides your eyes like ripples on water. This is a stunning stop everyone should make.

Stop Into Elfreth’s Alley Museum

Any interesting city is going to have a street that feels like it stepped right out of history. Elfreth’s Alley is a historic street that dates back over 320 years ago. Formed out of 32 hours, all built in the 1700s and 1800s, it’s home to a museum that walks you through this history.

Many of these properties are still residential, so it’s fantastic to see the history and present coexist so perfectly.

Have Fun at Longwood Gardens

There’s nothing like gorgeous gardens to make you want to start looking at Philadelphia houses for sale! The amount of greenery that these gardens fit in is mind-boggling. From millions of hues and shades, you’ll feel like you’re walking through a constantly changing watercolor painting.

This is open to visitors year-round because of the fun mix of native and exotic plants and horticulture. Many events are also hosted here, giving you an opportunity to stop and smell the roses.

Learn More at Eastern State Penitentiary

Although stopping in at a former American prison might not sound like the highlight of any trip, it’s one of the most interesting things you can do in Philly.

From stories about the criminals like Al Capone, who had been housed here, to traveling down to the lower floors to hear about the horrors people went through while living here, this is a stop that will chill you to your bones and have you looking at the world differently. In the fall, there’s a ‘Ghost Walk’ that tells you the stories as though the inmates were still around.
